Peace Is More Valuable
Philippians 4:11-12
“ I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.”
Hi, Rehobot Youth! Have you ever felt like your life is lacking just because you see what others have? Social media often leads us to compare ourselves—from the latest gadgets, trendy clothes, vacation spots, to our friends’ achievements. Without realizing it, we start to think that peace and happiness will come if we have more.
Paul, however, teaches something different. He says that he has learned to be content in every situation. This means that contentment isn’t something that just happens on its own, but rather an attitude of the heart shaped by God. Paul has lived through both abundance and scarcity, but those circumstances didn’t determine his peace and well-being. Why? Because he made Christ the source of his strength and satisfaction.
Imagine the moment you finally manage to buy that gadget you’ve wanted for so long. It feels great, but a few months later a newer model comes out and that desire resurfaces. That’s what happens when we pin our joy on temporary things. That satisfaction fades quickly. On the other hand, when our hearts are rooted in God, we learn to be grateful for what we have and aren’t easily overcome by envy or never-ending desires.
Rehobot Youth, God doesn’t forbid us from having dreams, working hard, or enjoying the blessings He gives. However, don’t let any of that become the source of your peace. True peace doesn’t come from what’s in your hands, but from the One who holds your life. When Christ is the center of your life, you’ll maintain a peaceful heart—whether you’re receiving abundance or having to wait and learn to be content with what you have.
What To Do?
1. Train your heart to be grateful every day.
2. Stop comparing yourself to others.
3. Make Christ the source of your peace.
