Father of All Spirits

The Father in heaven is the Father of all spirits. The spirit in every human also comes from Him, and the Spirit of God possessed by the Lord Jesus Christ also comes from Him. He is the one who sanctifies, and every believer who is sanctified comes from the same Source, namely, the Father in heaven. If our Father is the Father of all spirits, then it is not wrong for Paul to call “men of God” to flee from the love of money but to pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and gentleness (1 Timothy 6:11). Understanding this, we must be able to value ourselves and others correctly.

Likewise, Jesus’ Person on earth was like us, and Scripture records that He overcame every temptation to sin. Therefore, we who believe in Him should also be able to overcome every temptation to sin, since our spirit comes from the same Father. So do not listen to the devil’s deception that we are weak humans with many shortcomings, making us feel incapable of reaching the level of holiness God desires. It would be impossible for the Lord Jesus to command, “You therefore must be perfect” (Matthew 5:48) if it were utterly impossible for us to do so. Through the phrase “our Father,” we can accept that His command for us to be perfect is not empty words but an attainable reality by His grace and help.

When Paul taught Timothy to flee the love of money and to pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and gentleness (1 Timothy 6:11), this is not a legalistic checklist of obedience but a portrait of life born of an intimate relationship with the Father of spirits. Therefore, when we realize that the Source or origin of our spirit also comes from the Father, our heart’s motivation changes. We do not live in fear and despair but with hope and courage to grow and be increasingly transformed into the likeness of Christ. 

Let this truth become a blazing, burning strength in our hearts, that we can put on the mind and feelings of Christ. Do not be defeated before the battle begins. This awareness will arouse our zeal to fill the brief days of our lives on earth until we finally become what He desires us to be. We share the same Source of Spirit—the Father in heaven. He will enable us to reach the level of perfection He desires.
