Not My Will
“Going a little farther, He fell with His face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from Me. Yet not as I will, but as You will.”
– Matthew 26:39
Hi, Rehobot Youth! Have you ever felt disappointed because your prayers seemed to go unanswered by God? You have prayed for problems to be resolved, relationships to be restored, or plans to go as expected, but the reality has not changed. In such situations, many people begin to ask, “Does God still care about me?”
Often we consider prayer as a way to get what we want. Unconsciously, we expect God to follow our plans. As a result, when God answers “no” or “not yet”, we feel disappointed and think God has abandoned us.
But Jesus himself once experienced a similar struggle. In the garden of Gethsemane, He prayed that the cup of suffering would pass from Him. Jesus communicated His desires honestly to the Father. But in the end He said, “Not as I will, but as You will.” The Father did not lift the cross from Jesus. Not because He does not love Him, but because through the cross there is a much greater plan of salvation.
Sometimes God also answers our prayers in ways we don’t expect. There are relationships that are not restored, plans that do not happen, or opportunities that are not given. But that doesn’t mean God rejects us. It could be that God is protecting us, shaping our character, or directing us to something better according to His will.
Rehobot Youth, when God says “no”, don’t immediately consider that as the end of the story. The answer “no” from God is often a form of His love that we do not yet understand. God sees further than we see. Therefore, learn to believe that God’s will is always better than our own.
What to Do?
• Re-evaluate: is your prayer more centered on your desires or God’s will?
• Learn to submit the final result to God after doing your part.
• Believe that every answer from God, including “no”, is born from His love and wisdom.
