Life Beyond Myself

“I am the Lord’s servant, Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.”
— Luke 1:38

Hi, Rehobot Youth! Have you ever felt like today’s world teaches us to focus on ourselves? It’s all about achievement, popularity, and personal happiness. But if life only focuses on “me,” our hearts ultimately remain empty. God wants us to see that life is bigger than just ourselves.

Mary was an ordinary young girl when the angel came with the news that she would give birth to Jesus. It wasn’t an easy plan, and it could even have brought many risks to her life. But Mary said, “I am the servant of the Lord.” Mary chose to trust that her life existed for God’s plan, not just for her own desires. The presence of God changed her perspective—from a focus on herself to a focus on God’s will.

The world may say that life is about success and fame. But when we come to know the living God, we learn that our lives are called to be a blessing to others. When God changes our perspective, we no longer live solely for ourselves, but begin to use our lives to bring good influence and bring God’s love to those around us.

Rehobot Youth, your life has a greater meaning than simply pursuing personal satisfaction. You are made for more—called to participate in God’s eternal plan. When we learn to say, like Mary, “I am the handmaid of the Lord,” our lives will be used by God to bring light and hope to many.

What to Do?
• Reflect: Is your life still too self-centered?
• Learn to say, like Mary, “I am the handmaid of the Lord.”
• Use your life to be a blessing and a positive influence on others.
