How can we do things that align with God’s mind and heart? By studying the truth of God’s Word daily and building a harmonious relationship with Him. Through continual practice over a long journey, we come to the point that we can weep with the Lord. Then one day, when we meet Him, the Lord can say, “This is my friend; he is part of my life. I shed tears through his tears.” In Colossians 3:12, Paul says, “Clothe yourselves with compassion.” That is not compassion in a general sense, but compassion born from God’s own feelings. Here we begin to understand when Paul says, “It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.”
The generous person receives mercy. This means a person who shares God’s mind and feelings. How glorious is such a life, for it is no longer about self but Christ living within. There is a difference between Jesus’ words, “When I was hungry you gave me food; when I was thirsty you gave me drink,” and the idea that we become God’s vessels to do what He wills. All we do truly satisfies His mind and heart. Here God is the subject, not merely the object of our good deeds. Doing good and being counted righteous is good, but more perfect is to enact God’s own mind and feelings. This is very high and hard to attain, yet God makes it possible.
Therefore, we must study the truth day by day and set aside time to meet the Lord in daily private prayer. If we act according to God’s mind and heart, it will not become personal pride because we do so naturally. God communicates His message to those around us through our actions—not so we appear good, but because we have discovered God’s goodness. Eventually, others will sense that our actions are not ordinary deeds but those of a man of God, and they will glorify the Father upon seeing what we do.
How wonderful it would be if we could channel God’s mind and heart. Even though our deeds are sometimes not well-received, everything will be revealed clearly in time. If someone harms us, do not retaliate; everything will end, and there will be reckoning on the day of judgment. Ironically, few people dare to give God an unlimited quota for His work. To have an unlimited quota, we must keep learning the truth. We do not lose our personality; rather, it is transformed into one like Jesus. Such people will enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
To possess such a character, we must understand the meaning of salvation and how precious the salvation the Lord Jesus accomplished is—priceless and not for sale. Jesus, made like us in every respect as our brother, was faithful to keep holiness and obey until death on the cross to save sinners. Afterward, He was raised and exalted by the power of God, so Jesus became Lord and Christ. Therefore, the Word says, “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.” This is how we honor that salvation.
So, if we want to carry the burden the Lord desires: First, cherish the salvation He has given through His incomparable sacrifice. Second, realize the value of the eternal human soul. Let us strive to experience transformation in accordance with His design.
