Learning to Obey Like Mary
I am the Lord’s servant, Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.” — Luke 1:38
When the angel of the Lord came to Mary and revealed God’s plan for her life, Mary didn’t fully understand what was about to happen. She knew that obedience to God wouldn’t be easy. There would be risks, questions, and even the possibility of rejection from those around her. Yet, amidst all that uncertainty, Mary chose to trust and obey God.
Often, we also want to know God’s entire plan before taking a step. We want clear answers and the certainty that everything will turn out well. But God often teaches us to walk by faith, not with all the answers in hand. Knowing the living God means learning to trust even when we don’t understand everything.
Mary showed that obedience springs from a heart that trusts in God. She didn’t know the entire story’s ending, but she trusted that the God who called her would also guide her life. So it is in our lives as well. Sometimes there are unanswered prayers, changed plans, or life paths that feel confusing. Yet God continues to work amidst processes we do not yet understand.
Rehobot Youth, God remains faithful in leading the lives of those who are willing to trust and obey Him. Do not be afraid when you do not yet see all the answers. Learn from Mary—keep believing, keep walking, and keep obeying alongside God.
What to Do?
• Reflect on which part of your life is currently difficult for you to understand.
• Learn to trust God even when you haven’t seen the full answer yet.
• Continue to obey God’s will in the small things every day.
