Facing Conflict God’s Way
Proverbs 19:11
“Wisdom gives patience, and a person is praised for forgiving an offense.”
Conflict often comes uninvited. In relationships—whether friendships, ministry, family, or community—differences of opinion, misunderstandings, and even hurt feelings can easily arise. The issue isn’t whether conflict exists or not, but how we respond to it.
Often, conflict stirs our emotions. We want to retaliate immediately, defend ourselves, or prove that we are right. However, God’s Word today teaches a different response. Wisdom makes a person patient, and a person’s true glory is revealed when they are willing to forgive.
God’s way of dealing with conflict is not by retaliating, but by exercising self-control and making room for love to work. It takes humility not to react immediately, and it takes strength to choose forgiveness when our hearts are wounded.
Conflict, when responded to correctly, is not merely a problem to be solved, but an opportunity for growth. In the midst of conflict, our character is tested—whether we are ruled by emotions or guided by God’s wisdom.
When we choose to be patient, listen, and forgive, we are demonstrating that our lives are led by God. That is where conflict transforms into an opportunity to glorify Him.
What To Do?
• Reflect on your responses so far when facing conflict—have you been led more by emotion or by wisdom?
• Train yourself to “pause” before reacting, and make room for God to lead your response.
• Take steps to forgive or repair a relationship that is currently strained.
