Healthy Boundaries
Nehemiah 6:3
“I am carrying on a great project, and cannot go down…”
Sometimes we feel like we have to be available for everyone all the time. We’re afraid of being labeled as uncaring, unreliable, or uncool. Eventually, we say “yes” to so many things, but secretly we’re exhausted. God actually wants us to learn one important thing: to set healthy boundaries so our lives stay on track.
Nehemiah sets a clear example. While he was rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem, many distractions came his way—invitations, interruptions, even traps. But Nehemiah knew his priorities. He dared to say, “I cannot.” Not because he was arrogant, but because he understood that what God had entrusted to him was important.
As young people, our distractions might be different: hanging out constantly, scrolling through social media endlessly, or being so busy we forget to spend time with God. Without boundaries, we easily lose focus and energy. But with healthy boundaries, we can choose what builds us up and what needs to be rejected.
Boundaries don’t distance us from others; they actually keep relationships healthy. When we know when to stop, when to focus, and when to say “no,” we’re honoring the life God has entrusted to us.
What to Do?
• Be brave enough to say “no” when something interferes with your priorities.
• Set aside time for God, rest, and things that build you up.
• Keep your focus on the purpose God has given you in life.
