Don’t Lose Yourself in Love
Romans 12:2
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…”
Rehobot Youth, in our relationships we often unconsciously start to change for the sake of others. We start thinking like everyone else, our principles become lax, and even our identity slowly fades away just so we can be accepted. At first it looks like “sacrificing for love,” but over time we end up losing ourselves.
God never asks you to lose your identity for the sake of a relationship. On the contrary, He wants you to stand firm in who you are in Him. Your identity isn’t defined by your partner, friends, or relationship status—but by the God who created you.
A healthy relationship doesn’t erase your true self, but honors it. If a relationship forces you to constantly compromise on principles, faith, or life values, that’s a sign you need to stop and evaluate. True love supports your growth, not obscures it.
Establishing identity boundaries means you know who you are, what you believe, and you won’t waver easily just to keep someone. That’s not selfish—it’s a form of spiritual maturity.
What To Do?
• Get to know your identity in God before entering a relationship.
• Don’t compromise your principles just to be accepted.
• Choose relationships that support the growth of your faith.
