Wise Words

Colossians 4:6
“Let your speech always be full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer everyone.”

Sometimes we feel free to say whatever we want, especially in the age of social media. But God reminds us that our attitudes and words must be wise, full of love, and uplifting. Respecting parents and authority figures isn’t just about obeying rules, but also about how we speak and act with respect.

As young people, it’s so easy to get carried away by emotions when debating with parents or teachers. Sometimes we feel we have to “win” the argument, even though the way we speak can damage the relationship. A wise attitude means knowing when to be silent, when to speak, and how to express our opinions respectfully.

Respect isn’t just about the content of our words, but also our tone of voice, expressions, and body language. If we learn to control ourselves, we not only make our parents feel valued but also show that we’re mature and ready to be trusted with important matters.

What to Do?
• Practice speaking in a gentle and loving tone, even when you disagree.
• Learn to hold back your emotions before responding, so that your words build up, not tear down.
• Show respect through body language: make eye contact, listen attentively, and don’t jump to conclusions.
