Today’s Devotional Title:
Guard Your Heart First

Proverbs 4:23
“Guard your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.”

In relationships, we are often busy keeping the conversation warm, making sure our partner isn’t disappointed, or keeping the relationship from falling apart. But God says: guard your heart first. Because that is where the direction of your life is determined.

The heart is the center of everything—thoughts, emotions, decisions. If the heart is not guarded, feelings can take over and cause us to compromise. Many people fall not because they don’t know the Word, but because they allow their hearts to become too quickly attached without healthy boundaries.

Guarding your heart doesn’t mean being indifferent or anti-love. Guarding your heart means being aware of when to slow down, when to set boundaries, and ensuring that God remains the center, not just feelings. When your heart is in tune with the Word, you can distinguish between healthy love and mere momentary impulses.

A strong relationship doesn’t start with chemistry, but with a well-ordered heart. If your heart is secure in God, your relationships will also be more secure. Because true love always comes from a heart that is guarded properly.

What To Do?
1. Re-examine the motivation of your heart in the relationship you are currently in.
2. Set boundaries that help you remain obedient to God.
3. Involve God in prayer before your feelings take over your decisions.
