Today’s reflection is titled:
Stay “Respectful” Even When You Disagree
“The second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
— Matthew 22:39
As young people, we easily get carried away by our emotions when we disagree—whether it’s in a hangout, a chat group, or a social media comment section. A slight difference in perspective can quickly turn into a heated debate. Sometimes we feel like we are defending the truth, when in fact we are unknowingly putting others down. This is where Jesus reminds us: love is still number one.
Loving others as ourselves means giving room for differences without turning to hatred. We can have strong convictions, but we don’t have to lose our respect. Jesus himself often faced heated debates—especially with the Pharisees—but he never responded with arrogance or harsh words. He remained firm, but full of love.
Following Jesus’ example means learning to listen before reacting, to understand before judging. Respect does not mean agreeing, but choosing to treat others with the same value as we want to be treated. That is where the maturity of faith is tested—not when everyone agrees, but precisely when they disagree.
Because truth without love will only sound like hurtful noise. But truth wrapped in love can become a bridge that touches the heart.
What to Do?
1. Be brave enough to make decisions with grace when there is a conflict.
2. Always check your heart before doing anything.
3. Be an active listener. Following Jesus means being “present” for others.
