Choose Patience, Not Pride
“The end of a matter is better than its beginning; patience is better than pride.”
— Ecclesiastes 7:8
In conflict, we often want quick results: quick understanding, quick victory, and quick resolution. Unfortunately, the urge to rush is often not born of wisdom, but of ego. Ecclesiastes reminds us that patience is far more valuable than pride.
Patience helps us see the bigger picture. Not all problems need to be solved while emotions are still running high. Sometimes, giving time actually means giving God space to work—both in our hearts and in the hearts of others.
On the other hand, pride makes us want to win right away. We become unwilling to listen, unwilling to compromise, and unwilling to admit our mistakes. In fact, conflicts resolved with ego often leave deeper wounds than the original problem.
God teaches us that a good ending is far more important than a momentary reaction. In relationships—whether with friends, family, or community—patience keeps us from words and actions we may regret. We learn that maturity in faith is not measured by how loudly we speak, but by how well we can restrain ourselves. Choose patience, because God works beautifully through a humble heart.
What To Do?
1. When conflict arises, give yourself time before responding.
2. Examine your motivation: ego or love?
3. Pray that God will help you choose patience.
