Today’s Devotional Title:
More Than Just Hanging Out
“And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.”
— Hebrews 10:24–25
For Gen Z, hanging out has become part of everyday lifestyle. It can happen in cafés, ministry basecamps, friends’ houses, or even in digital spaces like group chats and social media. However, God’s Word reminds us that togetherness is not merely about spending time, but about building one another up and growing together.
Many friendships are filled only with laughter, light conversations, and momentary fun, yet bring no real growth. On the other hand, there are communities that may seem simple, but within them there is support, strengthening of faith, and the courage to lovingly correct one another. This is the difference between merely hanging out and fellowship that brings real impact to life.
We can see this clearly when young people gather. Some meetings end without direction or purpose, with everyone busy on their own devices. But there are also moments of togetherness filled with sharing struggles, praying together, or discussing life and faith. In moments like these, God is at work—shaping character, growing empathy, training cooperation, and planting a sense of responsibility toward one another.
What To Do?
Be an initiator of goodness by directing friendships toward love, encouragement, and spiritual growth.
Fill your time together with meaningful activities, such as sharing life stories, praying together, or talking about your experiences with God.
Honestly evaluate your togetherness: does each meeting strengthen your faith, or is it merely passing time?
