Giving with a Sincere Heart
Mark 12:43–44
“Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, ‘Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.’”
Shalom, Truth Kids friends! Did you know that in the past people had a special way to show their gratitude and love for God? It was through offerings. Why did they give offerings? They were expressions of thanksgiving, signs of asking forgiveness, and also acts of obedience.
In the Bible story above, a poor widow came to the temple and gave two small coins—which were her entire livelihood. The rich people might have laughed at her because they gave much more, but it was only out of their abundance. Jesus, however, praised the widow because she gave with a sincere and willing heart, not out of her excess.
So, from this story, Truth Kids friends, we can learn that the value of a gift is not measured by how much we give, but by how sincere our hearts are when we give. When you learn to give with a sincere heart, you are becoming an instrument in God’s hands.
