Rejoice
Luke 1:41–42
“When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed: ‘Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear!’”
Today we learn about Elizabeth. She was Mary’s relative (the mother of Jesus). When Mary was pregnant with baby Jesus, Elizabeth was also expecting a baby—John, who would later be known as John the Baptist.
When Mary visited Elizabeth, baby John leaped in her womb, as if he knew that Mary was carrying Jesus. Elizabeth felt great joy when she realized that Mary was pregnant through the Holy Spirit. She didn’t become jealous or ask, “Why wasn’t I, the wife of a priest, chosen to carry the Savior?” Instead, Elizabeth showed a beautiful example of a godly heart—she rejoiced and blessed Mary.
We should also have the same attitude. As children of God, we need to rejoice when others are blessed. Don’t be jealous or envious, but join in blessing them. As God’s Word says in Romans 12:15: “Rejoice with those who rejoice …”
Let’s always practice God’s Word so we don’t become a stumbling block to others. When we live as doers of the Word, our lives will truly be a blessing to those around us—at home, at school, at church, and wherever we are.
