Courage and Wisdom
1 Kings 1:30
“I will surely carry out this very day what I swore to you by the Lord, the God of Israel: Solomon your son shall be king after me, and he will sit on my throne in my place.”
In a warm home, Mrs. Rina worried as she remembered her husband Mr. Danu’s promise that their son Rio would inherit the family bakery. She gently approached her husband, who was reading the newspaper.
“Dear, do you remember your promise to Rio?” she asked softly.
Mr. Danu looked at his wife, closed the paper, then called Rio and Uncle Budi, their loyal employee. In front of them he said, “From today, I will teach you all the recipes and how to run the bakery.” Mrs. Rina’s heart was relieved to see her husband keeping his word right away. From then on, Rio eagerly learned from his father.
This story reminds us of the Bible account of King Solomon and his mother, Bathsheba. When King David was old, Adonijah tried to seize the throne. Bathsheba, together with the prophet Nathan, went to David to remind him that Solomon was the promised successor. David acted quickly: he commanded the priest Zadok, the prophet Nathan, and Benaiah to anoint Solomon at Gihon. The people shouted, “Long live King Solomon!” Adonijah and his followers were terrified and scattered. David’s promise was fulfilled, and Solomon officially became king.
From Bathsheba we learn that true love gives birth to courage and wisdom. She upheld justice and made sure David’s promise was carried out.
Truth Junior friends, let’s follow Bathsheba’s example—having a heart that is brave and wise so we can bring goodness and justice to those we love.
