Anyone who decides to live by genuine faith must not waver in making their calling the sole focus of life—the only way to give meaning to life. Everything we do should merely serve as a means or tool to fulfill that purpose: to live out genuine faith.
Abraham’s life seemed to be taken away from himself—because all that he did was to follow wherever God led him—toward a land that God had promised, even though he did not know where that land was. That is extraordinary. There was no clear goal in human eyes, yet that was the most actual goal: a journey lived day by day.
The same applies to our purpose in life. From the moment we wake up, minute by minute, we should strive to know God, understand His will, and do it. Every minute of our lives is immeasurably precious. Yet we have already been corrupted by the world, and now we need to be restored.
If someone chooses the world, then throughout their life, they will continue to be steered by the powers of darkness toward the world. Conversely, only those who dedicate their entire lives to pursuing and experiencing God will truly find Him. God knows and can distinguish whether a person has chosen Him as their only choice or not. For we cannot serve two masters—we must choose one—and God can recognize that choice.
A person who truly chooses God will surely have the courage to leave everything else behind. That means they no longer value anything in this world above God’s purposes. Such a person will come to know God and do His will, even though the process may be long, and this becomes evident in every life choice they make: how they use their time each day—whether they are willing to set aside time to study God’s Word, pray, attend Bible studies, or listen to the Voice of Truth—or whether they instead choose other pursuits that contribute nothing to their spiritual growth.
The same principle applies to how one uses wealth or possessions: whether for personal pleasure and pride, or for service and the work of God. Many people fail to realize that God is testing whether their path is straight or crooked. “Crooked,” in this sense, means deviating, being unfaithful, or even betraying God.
If someone still believes that the world can rival or match the peace, comfort, security, and joy that come only from God, then they are, in fact, dishonoring the greatness of God. Those who remain in such a state will easily fall into sin and transgression. Yet the joy, peace, tranquility, safety, and comfort that come from God are truly beyond comparison.
Indeed, God sometimes allows us to experience many problems. But in eternity, we will be safe forever. Sadly, many people do not realize that their path has become crooked. Yet each of us will one day reach our final resting place—the place where our body will lie before death takes us. Ironically, we never know when or where that final resting place will be.
Hopefully, when that time comes, we can still say, “Lord, You are my friend—be with me.” But if we have not truly walked with God long beforehand, we will not be able to say that, for God Himself will not grant us the chance to be accompanied by Him. Therefore, let us reflect on this earnestly.
One day, we will all reach that final resting place. Why should we think about it now? Because death knows no age, no place, and can come in countless ways. Rarely does God reveal where our final resting place will be. If we could choose, of course, we would want the most “dignified” one, according to our own standards. But in truth, it doesn’t matter where that resting place is, or what kind of coffin we will have.
The real question is this: where will our soul and spirit rest once our body is buried? That is the most essential matter—and it is entirely determined by the choices we make in life today.
