Today’s devotion is titled:
My Wallet Isn’t Neutral
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
— Matthew 6:21
Imagine you are Zacchaeus—a wealthy tax collector, but hated by many because of the way he got his money. When Jesus came to town, Zacchaeus was so eager to see Him that he climbed a tree. And when Jesus entered his house, everything changed. Zacchaeus decided to return the money he had taken and give half of his wealth to the poor.
Zacchaeus realized that money isn’t just about amount—it’s about direction. Before meeting Jesus, his wallet was a tool for oppression. After meeting Jesus, his wallet became a tool for restoration.
For many Gen-Zers, money seems neutral—as long as the balance is fine, everything’s okay. But Jesus says, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” That means how we use money reveals who we truly serve.
Money can be a mission tool or an ego tool. It can be a channel of love or a channel of ambition. Your wallet is never neutral—it always points somewhere. And that direction should lead toward the Kingdom of God.
What To Do:
1. Check Your Wallet’s Direction
Review your spending this week. Is your money mostly going toward lifestyle or toward things with eternal impact? Change one small habit today.
2. Pray Over Your Financial Mission
Write in your journal: “What does God want me to do with my money?” Then pray that every transaction becomes part of your calling not just consumption.
3. Learn from Zacchaeus
If you’ve mismanaged money or been too focused on material things, don’t be ashamed. God can redirect your wallet if you’re willing to open your heart.
