Today’s devotion is titled:
The Danger of Greed

“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.”
— 1 Timothy 6:10

Imagine a teenager who already owns a nice smartphone but becomes obsessed with getting the newest model. When he finally gets his dream phone, the joy doesn’t last long. Soon, he realizes that the new phone isn’t the end of his search—it’s just the beginning of a “bottomless pit” called greed, which slowly drains his peace and joy.

The Apostle Paul gives a clear warning: “The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.” It’s important to understand that money itself isn’t the problem—it’s neutral. The problem starts when we begin to love it more than anything else. When our hearts chase after worldly possessions, our faith begins to drift. Our focus shifts from storing up eternal treasures—like character, love, and service—to chasing temporary, earthly wealth.

Greed destroys peace, breeds anxiety about losing what we have, and damages our relationships because we start viewing people as tools for personal gain. Don’t let your wallet or bank account define your worth. A person’s true value isn’t measured by what they own but by who rules their heart.

As followers of Christ, we are called to make God our greatest treasure. When Christ becomes the center of our hearts, we learn to use money wisely—not love it. That’s when we’ll find real peace and become channels of blessing, not victims of greed.

What To Do:
1. Examine your heart to guard against greed.
2. Practice generosity—learn to share with others.
3. Make eternal values your top priority.
