Giving Thanks Through Songs and Dance

Exodus 15:20–21
Miriam and the women of Israel led songs of victory after they crossed the Red Sea and escaped Pharaoh’s army. Miriam took a tambourine in her hand, danced, and led the women in singing praises to the Lord, acknowledging that He had triumphed gloriously and had thrown horse and rider into the sea.

Hi Truth Junior friends! Have you ever felt so happy that you just wanted to jump, dance, or clap your hands? Maybe when your futsal team won a game, or when many friends came to celebrate your birthday. Wow, that’s real joy, right?

But… there are also times when we feel sad: maybe when our test score drops, our favorite toy breaks, or a friend suddenly gets upset with us. In those moments, we often forget that God still loves us and is with us. Instead of giving thanks, we sometimes prefer to complain.

In Exodus 15:20–21, there’s an exciting story! After God helped the Israelites cross the Red Sea, Miriam—Moses’ sister—immediately took a tambourine and began dancing while praising the Lord. She invited all the women to sing: “Sing to the Lord, for He is highly exalted. Both horse and driver He has hurled into the sea!” Miriam knew that the victory came from God, and she wanted everyone to remember that the Lord is mighty and faithful.

Truth Junior friends, when you feel down or sad, remember this: our God is the same God who helped Miriam and the Israelites. We can praise Him with songs, clapping, or prayers of thanksgiving—even in hard times. Let’s be children who always trust and praise the Lord—not only when things are good, but also when things are tough.
