Today’s Devotional Title:
Small gathering, powerful prayers
“For where two or three are gathered together in My name, there am I in the midst of them.”
Matthew 18:20
Ever feel like your group is too small to make a difference? Or think, “It’s just the two of us, who’s going to hear our prayers?” Well, today’s verse turns that thinking on its head. God promises that when two or three people seriously gather and call on His Name, He Himself will be present among them. It’s not about how many people there are, but how strong your faith and prayers are.
Just look at the examples in the Bible. David and Jonathan were only two, but their friendship became David’s strength when he was being pursued by Saul. Or Paul and Silas, who were only two in prison, but their prayers and songs of praise shook the entire prison. Not to mention Elijah, who stood alone against 450 prophets of Baal, but because he relied completely on God, fire came down from heaven and burned up his sacrifice.
The point is, never underestimate the power of prayer from a small group of people who are totally sold out to God. Sometimes it is in small groups like this that our faith is tested and strengthened. You don’t have to wait until you have a large community to start making an impact. Start with your current circle of friends, invite them to make a commitment to pray together, strengthen each other, and see how God works through you.
What to do:
1. Start by gathering two or three close friends to commit to praying together regularly. It doesn’t have to be long, consistency is what matters.
2. Make it a time to strengthen each other and trust in God’s promise that He is present among you.
3. Believe that from this small, faithful group, God can raise up something great for His kingdom.
