Today’s Devotional Title: Showering from a Gentle Heart
Psalm 103:8-10 (NIV)
The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will He harbor His anger forever; He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.
The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in love. Psalm 103:8-10 reminds us that He does not treat us as our sins deserve. Imagine if God gave us exactly what we deserved, none of us would be able to stand. Yet instead, He pours out His steadfast love like rain on our hearts that have been dry because of our mistakes.
God’s forgiveness is like rain falling on a barren land. It may be brief, but it’s enough to make life grow again. And here we see the highest example God forgives not because we deserve it, but because His love is far greater than our wrongs.
When our hearts are hurt, our ego screams for revenge, and our sense of justice demands punishment that’s when the battle of the heart happens. Forgiveness is not a shortcut; it’s an inner victory inspired by how God treats us.
Just as God continues to shower our hearts with His grace even when we often disappoint Him, we are also called to shower the hearts of others hearts that may be dry and wounded with forgiveness. They may not ask for it. They may not change. But the rain we choose to pour out could be the beginning of new life, both for them and for our own hearts.
What to Do:
1. Write a Rain Letter
Take a piece of paper or open a digital note, and write words of forgiveness to someone whose heart has once been barren toward you. You don’t have to send it—but let those words flow as a symbol of the “rain” you choose to pour out, even while the pain is still there.
